The UMKC Bachelor of Health Sciences program is now accepting applications for its first ever Diversity Peer Education Team.

Students who become part of the Diversity Peer Education Team (DPET) are responsible for providing opportunities for BHS students to learn more about diversity, what diversity means to BHS students, to foster an inclusive environment, and to encourage dialogue between everyone in our community. Focus areas include diversity, respect, acceptance, inclusion, and awareness. The Diversity Peer Educators will provide education and information to other BHS students through interactive presentations…and receive a $300 stipend!

Required Qualifications:

  • Successful completion (B or higher) of HLSC 300 Diversity in Health, or are currently enrolled in HLSC 300 Diversity in Health
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Excellent leadership abilities
  • Excellent presentation and/or outreach skills
  • Prior involvement with leadership activities is preferred
  • Must be able to work well within a team
  • Must have an interest in diversity and inclusion education
  • Must be able to commit to participation for the entire academic year
  • Must be a UMKC student in good academic standing

Mandatory training dates:

December 01, 2017, 5:00pm – 9:00pm

December 02, 2017, 9:00am – 5:00pm

December 03, 2017, 10:00am – 3:00pm

January 19, 2018, 12:00pm – 3:00pm

April 2018, 1 hour, date & time TBD


What you receive as a DPET member:

  • Gain facilitation, communication, and leadership skills
  • Gain knowledge on diversity and inclusion concepts
  • Interact closely with diversity and inclusion UMKC collaborators
  • Receive a DPET member t-shirt
  • Receive $300 stipend upon successful completion of:
    • Training - $100
    • Facilitation of presentations - $200 (All presentations will be conducted in the spring 2018 semester)


Application must submitted by 12:00pm (noon) CST on Friday, November 10, 2017.

Approved applicants will be notified by e-mail on Friday, November 17, 2017. Therefore, please ensure that you check your UMKC account regularly for notifications. Failure to reply to an award notification may result in withdrawal of your application.
